Jordan VanHemert, Artistic Director
Quickly gaining recognition as a diversely-skilled emerging artist, Dr. Jordan VanHemert is a woodwind specialist, composer, and educator. VanHemert’s performing career has taken him to venues around the United States. He has also been invited to perform his compositions at North American Saxophone Alliance Biennial and Regional Conferences. An in-demand educator and clinician, VanHemert has presented masterclasses and clinics at high schools and colleges around the country. He holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, a Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan, and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Central Michigan University. VanHemert is a member of the North American Saxophone Alliance, the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), Pi Kappa Lambda, and The International Society of Jazz Composers and Arrangers.
Jake Vanderheyden, Business Development Director
Jake is originally from Lake Orion, MI. He holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance and General Management from Grand Valley State University, with minors are Accounting and International Business. He was a 4 year member of the Laker Marching Band and was a section leader for 3 years. He held the treasurer position on the Laker Marching Band Council. He also studied jazz with professors Michael T. Drost and Tim Froncek, known for their work in the West Michigan jazz scene. He is a member of In The Blue Jazz Ensemble, has been a member of the Grand Valley Jazz Orchestra, as well as his involvement with other various jazz groups in the Detroit area. He has performed across the nation, notably on stage at Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Valerie Fatura, Young Audiences Program Coordinator
Valerie is originally from Mexico City, Mexico. She is a fifth-year student at Grand Valley State University. Her major is elementary education and her minor is Spanish. She is currently student teaching in Jenison Public Schools. She is a member of the Laker Marching Band and has been a color guard captain for 3 years. She holds the position of Social Events Coordinador on the Laker Marching Band Council. She is also a member of Grand Valley Dance Troupe because she has a passion for dancing. Valerie has lots of experience with children since she has worked and volunteered at several places that involve interacting with children.
